Fall visit, September to November
Mice and rats, kept out before the cold
When the nights turn cold, mice go looking for a way in. The fall visit closes what it can and watches what it can't.
A mouse fits through a gap the width of a pencil. We look at door sweeps, vents, pipe openings, the garage door seal and the foundation. Where we find a way in, we close it with steel mesh and sealant, not just a trap. Bigger repairs, such as a rotted board, go on the report for you or a carpenter.
Signs to look for
Scratching in the walls or ceiling at night
Droppings in drawers, the garage or behind the stove
Gnawed packaging in the pantry
Grease marks along baseboards and walls

At the visit
What we do, in four steps
- 01
Step 1: Inspect
We check the outside walls, vents, doors and the garage, then the basement and attic.
- 02
Step 2: Seal
We close the gaps we can reach with steel mesh and sealant.
- 03
Step 3: Monitor
We place monitors where we see activity, in the garage, basement or attic.
- 04
Step 4: Check back
We look at the monitors at your winter visit and tell you what they show.
Before and after
What helps from your side
Lidded bins
Keep pet food and birdseed in bins with lids, in the garage too.
Move the wood
Stack firewood away from the house and off the ground.
Trim back
Cut branches that touch the roof. They're a ladder to the attic.
Questions about this visit
Can you just set traps?
Traps catch the mice that are in. Sealing keeps the next ones out. We do both, and we start with the sealing.
Do you handle rats too?
Yes. Rats need bigger gaps and more care, and we'll tell you what we see before we choose a plan.
Who does the bigger repairs?
The fall visit closes small gaps. A rotted board, a hole in siding or a failed garage seal goes on your report, and a carpenter can take it from there.
